Tempo Advance - Metronome 2.4

Approved and used by Mike Mangini, drummer of the year and member of Dream Theater, Tempo Advance is a metronome app that takes your musicianship to the next level. As our exclusive consultant, Mike has been using Tempo Advance for four years as a practice tool and an invaluable companion to his Rhythm Knowledge drumming system.

The new Polyrhythm Mode allows for concurrent playback of two meters with different beats per measure, synced on the bar. This feature lets you explore any combination of up to 20 beats per measure.

While retaining the hyper-accurate audio engine from our bestselling Tempo, the user interface on Tempo Advance has been redesigned to focus on metronome visual cues.

With auto setlist advancement, accelerando, ritardando, and playback tracking, Tempo Advance makes it possible for you to program count-ins or complex songs with varying tempo, time signatures, and rhythms.

Time Signatures

• In Subdivide Mode, you can have up to 20 beats per measure and 20 subdivisions per beat.
• In Polyrhythm Mode, you can have up to 20 beats per measure on either channel.
• You can adjust these settings with gestures or by selecting directly.

Rhythm Patterns

• You can configure every beat and subdivision to be in one of four states: Accent 1, Accent 2, Regular, or Silent.
• Choose from 15 sound sets, including Voice Count and one specially tuned for live drumming.
• You can assign any sound and vibration state (iPhone only) to each of the tick states.
• Set individual volumes for each of the tick states.
• There are separate settings for the 2nd channel in Polyrhythm Mode.

Tempo

• The tempo range is from 10 to 800 BPM.
• You have four ways to edit tempo: gestures, tap tempo, adjustment buttons, and direct input.
• The beat interval and frequency are displayed.

Tracker and Automator

• You can keep track of the number of measures played or time passed.
• There is an option to stop the metronome and/or reset the tracker automatically when a limit is reached.
• Automatic adjustment of tempo by X BPM every X bars or X amount of time is available.

Presets

• You can store time signatures and rhythm patterns in unlimited preset buttons.
• Presets can be reordered or deleted by dragging them.

Setlists

• Tempo, meter, rhythm pattern, sound, tracker, and automator settings can be stored in songs organized into setlists.
• You can fully edit saved songs and manage them with features such as search and multi-row deletion and duplication.
• Auto setlist advance allows for hands-free operation, while complex songs can be programmed manually.
• The setlist can be looped and shared via email or backed up through iTunes File Sharing.

Audio

• There is a mute switch and playback over audio from other apps, even when the screen is locked or the app is in the background.
• Separate volume control is available for the metronome, and you can pan anywhere from extreme left to extreme right.

Themes

• You can choose from five default themes or create your own.
• You can switch between flat and skeuomorphic styles and use the intuitive Theme Editor to make changes in real time.
• The center panel can be textured with one of 25 patterns, and themes can be shared via email.

Miscellaneous

• The presets/setlist panel can be resized.
• You can take control with Bluetooth foot pedals and the iPhone's proximity sensor.
• A built-in tutorial section is available.
• There is an option to flash the display on the first or every beat, and reference tones are provided for all 12 chromatic notes with the ability to calibrate from A = 414 to 466 Hz.
